Cotton Wrapped Polyester ?
As Quilters and Patchworkers shouldn’t we be using 100% Cotton Thread ???
The common thought is that you always use the same thread as what you are sewing, so that would mean 100% cotton for 99% of patchwork applications.
Reason behind these thoughts is that polyester being stronger, will eventually “cut” through the cotton fabric damaging it.
The downside of using cotton thread is the strength, it does not have the same durability as polyester threads, and continual washing can over time damage a light weight cotton thread.
This is where the brilliance of RASANT thread comes in. It is polyester core, wrapped in cotton, the polyester actually never comes into contact with the fabric, it is cotton against cotton. With the added bonus of extra strength, especially when the quilt or clothing you are sewing will be loved, and washed regularly.

What is “Core-Spun” Thread ?
It tells us about how the thread is actually made.
You see, threads are basically fibres twisted together by spinning to form a continuous length – the result of this process is simply known as a “spun” thread. This is how threads are commonly made.
Core Spun takes it one step further – by having a core in the middle of the thread itself, and covering this core completely by spinning a layer of fibre outside of it – forming a core-spun thread.

Think about the stress your thread is under when quilting
Sewing through a minimum of 3 layers, many more over patchwork seams.
With each stitch you are condensing those layers, forming beautiful patterns, that need to last the life of the quilt you are making.
The more the quilt is being used, carried, slept under, snuggled into and washed, the more stress being placed on the thread you have chosen.
What does 120 Mean ?
The 120 is the weight of the thread, (Which is also equivalent to size 50 Thread) Tex 24 label mean it takes 24 kilometres of thread to weigh 1 kg (Tex will eventually become the thread weight standard throughout the world) 120/50 is a good density of sewing thread, and the needle size that is recommended by Amann (The manufacturers of Rasant) is 70/10 or 80/12.
Now you know it is safe to use for all your sewing applications
